In a decisive move, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have attached the Srinagar property of Mian Abdul Qayoom, a prominent former president of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA). The action stems from a case dating back to 2009, which involves allegations of an anti-national seminar. The attached property is a substantial double-storey residential house in the Barzulla area of Srinagar, spread across over 2 kanals of land. The seizure is being carried out under the authority of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), a key counter-terrorism legislation. Official communications highlight that incriminating evidence, including materials linked to terrorist groups, was recovered during the investigation, leading to the classification of the property as proceeds of terrorism. The order, formally issued by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, mandates the immediate attachment of the asset. This legal action is a significant development, especially considering Qayoom’s prior apprehension in 2020 concerning the assassination of Advocate Babar Qadri.
