Ranchi police have successfully apprehended two members of the notorious Sujit Sinha gang following a pre-dawn shootout in the Balsiring area of Tupudana OP. The encounter left one criminal injured and resulted in the recovery of three pistols. This operation is seen as a significant step in curbing the gang’s activities in the region.
The shootout is reportedly connected to an incident where criminals fired shots at the house of Monu Rai in Doranda. Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individuals, including Aftab (who was wounded) and Sonu, were acting on orders from Sujit Sinha. Rural SP Praveen Pushkar detailed the successful operation, highlighting the arrests and weapon seizures, and assured the public that the investigation is proceeding actively.
The crackdown began after SSP Rakesh Ranjan received credible information about the presence of Sinha’s gang members. A joint task force, comprising the Rural SP, Hatia DSP, and personnel from various police stations, was formed. Widespread vehicle checking was implemented, leading to the interception of a suspicious motorcycle.
During questioning, the rider, identified as Sonu, confessed his affiliation with the Sujit Sinha gang. He revealed that several of his associates were gathered near Balsiring hill, consuming alcohol. This crucial intelligence prompted the immediate deployment of a police team. Upon nearing the criminals’ location, they resorted to firing, which was met with a strong defensive response from the police. Aftab sustained a bullet wound in the ensuing exchange, and both he and another associate were taken into custody. Further interrogation of the arrested individuals is underway, and SSP Rakesh Ranjan personally visited the encounter site.
