A double murder investigation in Dumka, Jharkhand, revealed a shocking crime where an elderly couple was found dead in their residence. The victims, Navgopal Saha and Vibhu Saha, were discovered amidst a scene of violence. Their son, Ajay Saha, was away at the time of the incident.
The Mufassil police station initiated an investigation at Chorkatta village. Authorities, led by SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar, focused on the crime scene. The investigation utilized technical analysis, including mobile phone records, to identify a suspect.
The primary suspect, Subal Saha, the younger son-in-law, initially attempted to mislead the authorities. His statements were inconsistent with the evidence gathered. The police investigation revealed that his last location was not in West Bengal as he claimed, but in the victims’ village.
Under intense questioning, Subal Saha confessed to the murders. The motive centered around a financial dispute. He admitted to traveling from Birbhum district, West Bengal, on August 19th, and demanded money from his father-in-law to repair his truck. The refusal of funds sparked a violent argument.
The couple had previously provided substantial financial support to their older son-in-law, fueling Subal’s resentment. He used a brick to attack his father-in-law, leading to his death. When his mother-in-law attempted to intervene, she was also killed. Subal then stole valuables, including a gold chain, and disposed of his father-in-law’s phone. He returned to West Bengal, concealing his involvement. Adding a further layer of deception, he even participated in the funeral of his in-laws.
The police apprehended the accused and recovered the stolen items, including the mobile phone and jewelry, along with other crucial evidence.
