In Simdega, Deputy Commissioner Kanchan Singh led a ‘Janata Darbar’ at the district headquarters, where citizens from both urban and far-flung rural areas voiced their diverse problems. Officials were tasked with taking immediate steps to resolve the issues brought forth by the attendees. The grievances presented at the darbar were wide-ranging. Key concerns included obtaining caste certificates, facilitating the safe return of a young man named Suraj Singh who had gone missing in Maharashtra, the construction of a road connecting Saldega Ambatoili to Bangru Tuyutoli, addressing incidents of women’s harassment, restoring essential services like electricity and water for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, preventing unauthorized construction on legally acquired land, issuing death certificates, rectifying land registry (Panji-II) entries, and resolving multiple land disputes. One applicant, Anita Kerketta, highlighted the difficulties in obtaining a caste certificate due to legacy land record complexities, which hindered her academic and career pursuits. The Deputy Commissioner mandated specific actions from the Additional Collector and the Circle Officer of Kurdeg. Similarly, a request was made by Vimala Devi from Kolibira block for help in repatriating Suraj Singh from Maharashtra, where he was located in Ahmednagar district. The Deputy Commissioner pledged support through coordinated efforts. The event saw a strong turnout of villagers and senior officials, including Additional Collector Gyanendra.
