The cremation of the late Shibu Soren, former Chief Minister, took place with full honors on Tuesday in Nemra, his ancestral village in the Ramgarh district. The event drew a massive turnout of his admirers.
As news of the final rites of Shibu Soren, affectionately known as Guruji, spread, people began arriving at Nemra from early Tuesday morning. The district administration had set up a barricade at Lukaiyatand, approximately seven kilometers from the village. The administration had made arrangements for VIPs, including a helipad and vehicles. The route for VIPs was managed by the district administration. However, supporters of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Shibu Soren’s followers opted to walk the seven-kilometer distance.
Common people walked to Nemra from Lukaiyatand. There was no space to walk on the roads. The path to the crematorium, repaired by the district administration, was muddy. Arrangements were made to carry the body through paddy fields using planks. Finding no way, the common people used the footpaths through the fields. Supporters of Shibu Soren reached the crematorium via different footpaths. During the rain, some people sought shelter in tents, but the supporters of Shibu Soren remained steadfast. They stayed for about half an hour in the rain before finally paying their respects and leaving.
