A violent altercation took place at the Basudevpur Colliery on Monday night when a group of anti-social elements assaulted security personnel. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM near the colliery office, leaving one guard with a serious head injury. According to reports, a group of approximately six individuals confronted security guards Prem Kumar Upadhyay, Shankar Kumar Das, and Dilip Ravidas, who were on duty. The group began by verbally abusing the guards, and when the guards objected, they were physically attacked. Prem Kumar Upadhyay was severely injured in the attack. A motorcycle parked nearby was also damaged when its fuel tank was struck with a heavy object. The injured guard was initially treated at the Loyabad regional hospital. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was later transferred to the BCCL Central Hospital in Dhanbad for specialized care. The colliery management informed the police about the incident, and law enforcement officials arrived at the scene. Following the attack, the security personnel filed a written complaint with the project officer, demanding increased security and action against the culprits. Security personnel Shankar Kumar Das and Dilip Ravidas, when questioned, said that the attackers initiated the violence, causing a head injury to one of their colleagues and damaging a vehicle. Colliery manager Santosh Choudhary confirmed the incident, stating that the management had lodged a formal complaint with the Loyabad police station, who are currently investigating the matter.
