Ranchi. The renovation of the three main bus terminals of the capital Ranchi, ITI Bus Stand, Government Bus Depot, and Birsa Munda Bus Terminal Khadagda, will now be done according to national standards. Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren has instructed to accelerate urbanization works and directed the modernization, renovation, and repair of all these terminals.
Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Sudivya Kumar has sanctioned a total of Rs 48.72 crore. A provision of Rs 24.77 crore has been made for ITI Bus Stand, Rs 20.19 crore for Government Bus Depot, and Rs 3.76 crore for Birsa Munda Bus Stand. The minister has directed Principal Secretary of the department, Shri Sunil Kumar, to expedite the work through JUIDCO.
ITI Bus Stand to be Equipped with Modern Facilities
This bus stand, which currently has minimal facilities for passengers, will be developed into a modern one.
It will be built on three acres of land, with a terminal building comprising 2330 sq meters on the ground floor and 880 sq meters on the first floor.
It will have facilities like a driver’s canteen, maintenance shed, guard room, sliding entrance gate, waiting area, and parking for cars, autos, and e-rickshaws. The first floor will feature a restaurant, administrative building, ticket counters, dormitories, guest rooms with lockers, and landscaping for greenery.
Operation of 416 buses per day has been ensured.
Government Bus Depot to be Reconstructed
Built between 1962 and 1970, this depot is now in a dilapidated condition. As per the Chief Minister’s directive, it will be reconstructed according to Indian Road Congress standards at a cost of Rs 20.19 crore.
New facilities will be developed in the new building, covering 1771 sq meters on the ground floor and 845 sq meters on the first floor. It will include a guard room, maintenance area, dormitory, waiting area, food kiosks, bus bays with sheds, sliding gates, and car and auto stands. Approximately 512 buses will operate daily through eight bus bays.
Renovation of Birsa Munda Bus Terminal Khadagda
While retaining the current structure, this bus stand will be made more convenient at a cost of Rs 3.76 crore.
Spread over 11.6 acres, this complex will feature 31 bus bays, parking for 89 buses and 70 cars, smart sheds, a 50-bed dormitory, restrooms, bathrooms, a guesthouse, high-mast lights, a boundary wall, and special arrangements for women’s safety.
The complex will also undergo landscaping and beautification.
Principal Secretary Shri Sunil Kumar has directed JUIDCO to expedite the tendering process for all three bus terminals and commence work.
Upon completion of these projects, Ranchi’s bus terminals will be seen as models on a national level, not just within the state,
providing passengers with a better experience of safety, cleanliness, and modern amenities.
