Cybercriminals have set their sights on ATMs in Ranchi, employing sophisticated methods to defraud citizens. The increasing incidents of online cyber fraud have prompted a shift towards ATM usage for secure cash withdrawals. However, unguarded ATMs in Ranchi are now prime targets.
The criminals operate in several police station areas, preying on individuals who visit ATMs to withdraw money. They exploit situations where the debit card gets stuck in the machine, leading to unauthorized transactions. Victims are tricked through a series of deceptive steps, often involving fake phone numbers provided to ‘help’ resolve the issue.
This criminal gang has been active for an extended period, targeting people in different areas of Ranchi. From February 3rd to June 22nd, they have defrauded individuals in seven different locations, accumulating large sums of money. The police are facing challenges in curbing these activities, as the fraudsters continue their illicit operations. The gang’s tactics include misdirecting victims to other ATMs or banks under the guise of assistance, creating an opportunity for them to steal money.
Individuals are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
