A severe heatwave is gripping North India, with Delhi and other states experiencing extremely high temperatures. The monsoon’s advance has slowed, and many areas are seeing temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius. Delhi, the capital, is struggling with the heat, with cooling systems proving ineffective. Similar conditions are prevalent in much of Uttar Pradesh.
Today, Delhi could see a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius. Strong, dusty winds and heat waves are expected during the day. The weather is set to change this evening, with potential thunderstorms and light rainfall late at night. Rain is also predicted in Delhi from June 13-16, providing much-needed respite for Delhi NCR residents.
Uttar Pradesh may experience scattered showers, while heat waves are expected elsewhere. The meteorological department anticipates the monsoon arriving in Uttar Pradesh by June 15, which could bring relief.
Bihar and Jharkhand are experiencing varied weather. Bihar witnessed heavy rainfall in some areas but also intense heat elsewhere. Jharkhand is forecast to experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning across the state.
Rajasthan is suffering from a severe heatwave. Madhya Pradesh has issued heat alerts. Punjab and Haryana are also bracing for increased temperatures due to hot and dry winds. Rajasthan is expected to see a change in weather soon with rain expected in four districts on June 14. Madhya Pradesh has issued an orange alert for heat waves in several districts and a yellow alert for rain in others.
Heavy rainfall is predicted for Central Karnataka today. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in coastal and interior Karnataka. Eastern and Northern Tamil Nadu are under a very heavy rainfall warning. Heavy rain is also anticipated in Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Maharashtra is forecast to receive heavy rainfall in many parts of the state over the next 4-5 days.
