Bokaro city narrowly escaped a major catastrophe late Saturday night as a part of a four-story residential building unexpectedly collapsed. The structure, located in Sector 1B’s HSCL Colony under the City Police station limits, saw its rear section crumble, triggering immediate concern. Crucially, all residents were accounted for and safely evacuated from the building prior to the structural failure. The incident took place near houses numbered 351 to 366 in Sector 1B. The building, described as old and in a state of disrepair, suddenly gave way with a loud noise. This sound alerted residents in the vicinity, who emerged from their homes, quickly forming a crowd at the collapse site. Emergency services, including the City Police, Municipal Corporation, and Civil Defense teams, responded swiftly. The perimeter around the affected building has been secured, and neighboring structures have been voluntarily vacated as a safety precaution. Many families have lost their belongings to the debris and opted to stay in an open area overnight. Authorities have initiated efforts to clear the rubble and provide assistance. A national representative visited the scene, interacted with the affected residents, and requested temporary housing solutions at the Town Hall. He pointed out that prior warnings about the building’s poor condition had been ignored by the relevant authorities. Preliminary findings from the police indicate that moisture within the walls and general structural instability are the likely reasons for the partial collapse.
