Ranchi’s primary bus terminals are slated for a comprehensive upgrade to align with national standards, backed by an approved budget of Rs 48.72 crore. This initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, aims to modernize the ITI Bus Stand, Government Bus Depot, and Birsa Munda Bus Terminal in Khadgara. The Urban Development and Housing Minister has allocated funds, with Rs 24.77 crore designated for the ITI Bus Stand, Rs 20.19 crore for the Government Bus Depot, and Rs 3.76 crore for the Birsa Munda Bus Terminal. Work is expected to commence shortly under the guidance of the departmental principal secretary through JUHDCO. The ITI Bus Stand will be transformed into a cutting-edge facility, replacing its current basic amenities. Envisioned across three acres, the terminal will boast a two-level building equipped with a driver canteen, maintenance bays, security posts, an advanced entry system, and diverse parking options for various vehicle types. The upper level will house amenities like a restaurant, administrative offices, ticket counters, dormitory accommodation, guest rooms with lockers, and green spaces. The terminal is designed to facilitate the daily operation of 416 buses. The aging Government Bus Depot, originally built between 1960 and 1970, will be rebuilt at a cost of Rs 20.19 crore, adhering to Indian Road Congress standards. The new depot will offer improved facilities within its ground and first floors, including essential services for drivers and passengers, sheltered bus stops, and robust security features. The operational capacity will increase with eight bus bays accommodating approximately 512 buses daily. The Birsa Munda Bus Terminal in Khadgara, a sprawling 11.6-acre complex, will undergo renovation costing Rs 3.76 crore to enhance its functionality. Key upgrades include additional bus bays, extensive parking for buses and cars, modern shelters, a substantial dormitory, comfortable rest areas, clean bathing facilities, a guesthouse, improved lighting, boundary enhancements, and dedicated safety measures for women. The project also includes aesthetic improvements through landscaping and beautification. Directives have been issued to JUHDCO to fast-track the tender process and initiate construction. The successful completion of these projects will elevate Ranchi’s bus terminals to national benchmarks, ensuring a superior travel experience for commuters marked by safety, hygiene, and advanced infrastructure.
