Chaos erupted in Ghodabanda, East Singhbhum, following a devastating fire that broke out Sunday night. The incident, which originated from a vehicle parked outside an Ola service center in the Govindpur police station jurisdiction, quickly spread. Initial smoke from one car soon transformed into an uncontrollable blaze, engulfing numerous other vehicles parked in the vicinity.
Alarmed by the escalating flames, residents of the area evacuated their homes and initiated firefighting efforts before official help arrived. Firefighting teams and police personnel arrived shortly after being alerted and worked tirelessly through the night to extinguish the fire. The rescue operations continued until late hours before the flames were finally subdued.
Following the incident, the community voiced strong disapproval, accusing the owner of the Ola service center, identified as Tapas Das, of illegally using forest land and roadside areas for parking. Residents claim this unauthorized parking arrangement, allegedly made with the Ola company’s knowledge, has been a persistent issue despite numerous complaints to the forest department and local administration.
Residents highlighted a dangerous proximity to a power transformer situated directly across from the parking site. They emphasized the severe risk of a catastrophic explosion and extensive casualties had the fire reached the transformer.
