Babulal Marandi, the state president of the BJP and Leader of the Opposition in Jharkhand, has voiced strong objections to the operational conduct of the Jharkhand Police, accusing them of flouting laws and regulations. He cited an instance in Ranchi where the investigation into a significant criminal matter, stemming from an application by Khushi Tiwari and involving the Gonda and Namkum police stations, was assigned to the DIG responsible for the budget. Marandi questioned the logic behind assigning this task to a finance-focused official when high-ranking officers like the SSP, DIG, and IG are stationed in the capital. He posited that this indicates a lack of faith in the capabilities of the resident senior officers and a clear breach of protocol.
The leader also drew attention to what he described as contradictory practices within the police force. He criticized the government for reportedly assigning female constables from IRB/JAP battalions to administrative and clerical roles in regular police stations, pulling them away from their intended combat and security training. This, he stated, has led to a substantial portion of these units being deployed on unarmed duties. Simultaneously, when a sensitive case demanded review, it was handed over to the budget department. Marandi demanded the removal of any senior Ranchi officials found incompetent to perform fundamental investigative duties. He further speculated if this trend would extend to reassigning JAP personnel to budget-related tasks, thereby compromising their primary law and order responsibilities and potentially impacting their availability for national security operations. This, he lamented, points to an environment where rules and legalities are disregarded, likening it to a retired IPS officer allegedly holding the DGP position contrary to service regulations.
