Babulal Marandi, the state president of the BJP and Leader of Opposition, has publicly accused the Jharkhand government of manufacturing new crimes to mask existing criminal activities. He asserted that the government and its associated systems have adopted a dangerous practice of inventing new offenses to hide the real situation on the ground. Investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the illegal coal trade in Dhanbad have uncovered significant, concerning evidence. The most alarming aspect is the alleged directive from certain influential police officers, enriched by the proceeds of illegal coal dealings, to eliminate their own henchmen. This sinister plot is reportedly aimed at preventing individuals questioned by the ED from revealing crucial information. Marandi drew parallels to past instances in the state where alleged ‘encounter killings’ were staged under the guise of apprehending criminals to destroy evidence. He recalled a former Director General of Police (DGP) in Jharkhand who faced accusations of orchestrating contract killings and engaging in unprecedented corruption, with even ruling party members leveling charges. He emphasized the need for the ED to exercise extreme caution, as truth-tellers are suppressed while those who bury the truth thrive. The nexus between power, the establishment, and organized crime leaves little room for actual justice.
