An incident in Latakandar village, under the Shikaripara police station in Dumka, resulted in a man’s tongue being cut off. The victim was initially taken to the Shikaripara Community Health Center. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred for further medical attention. The family opted to move him to West Bengal for specialized treatment, which is currently ongoing in Bardhaman.
A woman was detained by villagers and tied to a tree before the police were notified. The Shikaripara police responded, releasing the woman and taking her in for interrogation. Laltu Sheikh’s wife, Jelenur Bibi, filed a complaint with the Shikaripara police, explaining that her husband left for Ganpura and didn’t return. When he was found, he was unable to speak and bleeding from the mouth. He signaled that Kalavati Murmu and several others had attacked him, bound him, cut his tongue, and severely beat him. The wife’s application calls for strong legal measures against the alleged perpetrators. Police officials stated that a thorough investigation is in progress, with efforts being made to gather the victim’s account of the events. The official stance will be issued after the victim’s statement is recorded.
