The Jharkhand government’s efforts to combat extremism have yielded a significant success. In Latehar district, nine members of the banned Jharkhand Janmukti Parishad (JJMP) surrendered, influenced by the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy. This marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing fight against Naxalism in the region. The surrender included the handover of 12 advanced weapons, including AK-47s, SLR rifles, and other sophisticated firearms, along with a substantial cache of ammunition. Five of the surrendered individuals carried rewards totaling over 20 lakh rupees, reflecting their high-profile status within the extremist group. The surrender was witnessed by senior officials from the Jharkhand Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This action is part of a broader campaign by security forces to eradicate extremist elements from Jharkhand. The surrendered individuals included key figures within the JJMP hierarchy, such as zonal commanders and area commanders, who were wanted in numerous cases. The surrendered weapons included four AK-47s, one AK-56, three SLRs, two .303 rifles, and one semi-rifle, along with a large quantity of ammunition and magazines. The surrender of these nine extremists, along with their arsenal of high-tech weapons, represents a major achievement for the security forces, and is seen as a significant step toward achieving a Naxal-free Jharkhand.
