In a significant blow to the illegal sand mining and transportation network in Khunti’s Jariagarh region, police successfully impounded six high-capacity trucks loaded with sand. The raid took place near Buxpur in the early hours of Wednesday, spearheaded by the Jariagarh police station. The targeted vehicles, identified by their registration numbers JH01FD 2807, JH01 0634, JH01FR 0106, JH01FR 1260, JH01FM 1402, and JH02BQ 3032, are now secured at the police station as authorities initiate legal measures. The Jariagarh area has long been a notorious hub for illegal sand quarrying and movement, with local communities frequently raising concerns. Reports suggest complicity from some villagers in sustaining this illicit operation. The recent crackdown was triggered by an incident on Tuesday night where some villagers attempted to block sand-laden vehicles. This led to a swift, coordinated raid by the forest department and local police. Although some drivers managed to evade capture, the operation resulted in the seizure of critical assets of the illegal trade. Residents have lauded the police action but stressed that sporadic enforcement is insufficient. They are urging for consistent campaigns to eradicate the illegal sand business from the area entirely.
