An educational tour turned into a nightmare in Koderma district today as a school bus carrying students plunged into a deep ravine. The bus, from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, was carrying 75 students from the 11th grade on a trip to Rajgir. The incident occurred in the Koderma Valley near the ‘Nauwan Mile’ landmark. While attempting to overtake a truck, the school bus reportedly struck the rear of the vehicle, leading to a loss of control and the subsequent fall into the roadside ditch. Several students and the bus driver sustained injuries. Alerted by concerned locals, the police patrol unit quickly responded, coordinating with ambulance services to reach the accident site. The injured were promptly taken to Koderma Sadar Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care. The school principal stated that such educational excursions are a regular part of the curriculum to provide students with historical and cultural insights. However, this year’s trip has been cut short due to the accident, with all students being sent back to school after the injured were attended to. A student involved in the incident described the harrowing experience, mentioning their initial excitement for the trip and the sudden chaos after the collision. Students and teachers from another school bus that was part of the convoy provided immediate assistance. District authorities, including Deputy Commissioner Ritu Raj, visited the hospital to offer reassurance and check on the well-being of the students. The Deputy Commissioner conveyed his regrets about the incident and mentioned that while some students require more intensive care, many have suffered minor injuries. He has directed the hospital staff to ensure exemplary treatment and to keep him informed about the patients’ progress. Local legislator Dr. Neera Yadav has also been in contact with the hospital to guarantee that all necessary medical facilities are made available and has expressed her wishes for the students’ swift recovery. The list of injured individuals includes students like Sonali Kumari, Khushi Kumari, Khushboo Kumari, Aradhya Datta, Anshu Kumari, Preeti Kumari, Asha Kumari, Gudiya Kumari, Gayatri Kumari, Muskan Kumari, Monika Kumari, Saniya Parveen, Mahi Kumari, Prema Kumari, alongside driver Ramesh Yadav and co-driver Sanjay Singh.
