New Delhi: The Jharkhand Pavilion at the 44th Indian International Trade Fair (IITF) 2025 is particularly noteworthy this year, with the Department of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change prominently showcasing the state’s remarkable efforts towards a green economy and sustainable development. The display of sisal (agave) based products and innovations at the pavilion is acquainting visitors with Jharkhand’s emerging potential. In Jharkhand, the cultivation of the sisal (agave) plant is rapidly becoming a powerful vehicle for transforming the rural economy. This plant, thriving with minimal water and in adverse weather conditions, is a major source of natural fiber, widely used in the production of ropes, mats, bags, and various handicraft items. Its sap also holds growing potential for biofuel and clean energy production, while its medicinal and cosmetic uses have given new direction to local entrepreneurship. The ease with which agave grows even on barren and less fertile land makes it a significant component of land conservation, ecological restoration, and climate-resilient agriculture.
