Jharkhand’s ruling party faces severe allegations of manufacturing new criminal cases to mask underlying illegal activities. Babulal Marandi, the state’s BJP president and Leader of the Opposition, has voiced his strong concerns, asserting that the government and its associated systems are now habitually creating fresh offenses to hide deeper issues. Significant revelations have emerged from the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) recent operations targeting the illicit coal trade in Dhanbad. The most alarming aspect is the alleged directive from influential police officers, reportedly profiting from the coal black market, to permanently ‘eliminate’ key informants working for coal mafias. Intelligence suggests a chilling conspiracy: individuals under ED scrutiny are being targeted for assassination to prevent them from divulging critical information. This strategy of ‘evidence elimination’ through staged encounters has a history in Jharkhand. The state has previously had a DGP facing allegations of contract killings and widespread corruption, a figure even criticized by members of the ruling coalition. Marandi warns the ED to be exceptionally vigilant, highlighting that truth-tellers are suppressed while those who bury facts prevail. When political power, administrative machinery, and organized crime converge, the perversion of justice becomes an inevitable outcome.
