Jharkhand’s Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, has accused the state government of a deliberate strategy to manufacture new criminal cases as a smokescreen for actual ongoing offenses. He asserted that the current government and its supporting systems have normalized the practice of fabricating crimes to obscure deeper criminal enterprises. This accusation comes in the wake of significant Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids targeting the extensive coal operations in Dhanbad, which have reportedly uncovered substantial incriminating evidence. A particularly alarming revelation suggests that some high-ranking police officers, allegedly benefiting from the illicit coal trade, have commissioned mafia elements to ‘permanently neutralize’ their associates who are cooperating with the ED. This alleged plot aims to prevent any further truth from surfacing by eliminating key witnesses. Marandi highlighted the alarming intelligence indicating that individuals under ED investigation are now facing assassination plots to ensure silence. He drew a stark comparison to historical events in Jharkhand where alleged ‘encounter killings’ were used to dispose of evidence, describing it as a recurring tactic to obstruct justice. He recalled a controversial former Director-General of Police (DGP) who faced severe accusations, including contract killings and unparalleled corruption, even from within the ruling coalition. Marandi urged the ED to proceed with extreme caution, noting that in Jharkhand, the suppression of truth often prevails over its revelation. He warned that when political power, systemic structures, and criminal syndicates converge, the manipulation of justice becomes an inevitable outcome.
