A wave of Naxalite terror has resurfaced in the West Singhbhum district, specifically within the expansive Saranda forest. In a bold act during their observance of ‘Resistance Week,’ Naxal operatives deliberately destroyed an Airtel mobile tower on Saturday night. The targeted tower was situated in Kolbonga village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Jaraikela police station. Eyewitness accounts from local villagers suggest that a group of around twenty heavily armed Naxalites descended upon the village under the cover of darkness. They reportedly poured petrol onto the tower’s base equipment and set it ablaze, leading to its complete destruction. After executing their plan, the insurgents raised slogans, a tactic often employed to signal their dominance and sow fear. The villagers have expressed concerns that the Naxalites’ primary objective was to cripple communication infrastructure, preventing any information from reaching security forces about their activities. The attack has instilled widespread fear among residents of Kolbonga and neighboring communities. Law enforcement officials have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident. This act of vandalism is considered the most significant operation by Naxalites during their ongoing week-long protest, which runs from October 8th to October 14th. The Saranda region has recently witnessed a surge in Naxal activities, including previous IED explosions that tragically claimed the life of a security personnel and left two others critically injured.
