A major infrastructure push is underway in Jharkhand, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurating and laying the foundation for key road projects worth ₹2460 crore in the Garhwa district on July 3rd. The initiatives are set to transform the transportation landscape and drive economic growth in the region.
The projects include a 22.73 km, 4-lane road on National Highway-39, connecting Shankha and Khajuri, which has been completed at a cost of ₹1129.48 crore. This crucial link offers direct connectivity between Palamu and Garhwa districts and the borders of Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Travel time is set to decrease dramatically, from an hour to a mere 20 minutes.
Gadkari also initiated the construction of a new road forming part of the Raipur-Dhanbad Economic Corridor, extending from the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border to Gumla. This road will divert traffic away from congested areas, improving road safety and supporting commerce, trade, and tourism. The project will also bolster the region’s cultural identity.
The launch event saw the presence of key political figures, including state and local representatives. Gadkari highlighted the potential of these projects to improve connectivity, stimulate job creation, and facilitate market access for local businesses. He reaffirmed the central government’s dedication to transforming Jharkhand into a developed state.
Further investments in Jharkhand’s road network are on the horizon, with the Ratu Road Elevated Corridor in Ranchi being among the upcoming projects. These initiatives, with a combined cost exceeding ₹6300 crore, underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing the state’s infrastructure and driving overall development. The Shankha-Khajuri road and the Raipur-Dhanbad Economic Corridor are expected to catalyze economic and social advancement, paving the way for a new era of progress for Jharkhand.
