A significant shift in agricultural strategy is underway in Jharkhand, with the introduction of a cluster-based system for Rabi seed distribution. Each cluster will encompass approximately 80 to 100 villages and will be developed to specialize in a particular crop, giving it a unique agricultural identity. This directive was issued by the state’s Agriculture Minister during a review meeting focused on agriculture and horticulture departments. The Birsa Crop Expansion Scheme will facilitate the distribution of seeds at a full 100% subsidy. Officials were urged to expedite project execution and ensure that farmers receive benefits promptly. Preparations for the Rabi season are a priority, including the organization of awareness drives and seminars focused on pulse and oilseed cultivation. To bring these crucial programs closer to the farming community, the workshops, previously held at the block level, will now be conducted at the panchayat level. This change aims to boost awareness about departmental schemes among villagers. A state-level agricultural trade fair is also scheduled for November in Ranchi, with preparations already underway and specific responsibilities assigned to officials for its successful organization. With favorable monsoon rains this year, expectations are high for a good yield. Seed procurement will be coordinated with district demands to ensure timely supply post-paddy harvest for the Rabi planting season.
