Shantanu Modak, a resident of Bangoi village in the Bodaam block of East Singhbhum, Jharkhand, has been awarded a one-crore rupee scholarship by the Jharkhand government. His father, Nirmal Modak, a farmer, supported Shantanu’s academic journey, even selling a portion of their ancestral land to ensure his son’s education wasn’t hindered by financial difficulties. Shantanu passed his matriculation examination from the high school in Bodaam. He then moved to Jamshedpur for further studies, earning a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and an M.Tech from NIT Durgapur.
Shantanu had aspirations of becoming a scientist and successfully cleared the scientific examinations of BARC and ISRO, though he wasn’t ultimately selected. Later, he worked as a faculty member in several engineering colleges. His dream was to establish himself globally, which the Jharkhand government’s ‘Overseas Scholarship’ scheme is helping him achieve.
