Shantanu Modak, a young man from Bangoi village in East Singhbhum, Jharkhand, is set to study in London thanks to a generous scholarship from the Jharkhand government. His father, Nirmal Modak, a farmer, has always supported Shantanu’s academic pursuits. To facilitate his son’s education, Nirmal even sold a portion of his ancestral land to manage the expenses. Shantanu’s hard work paid off when he received a one-crore rupee scholarship from the Jharkhand government.
Shantanu completed his matriculation from a high school in Bodam. He then moved to Jamshedpur for further studies, earning a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and an M.Tech from NIT Durgapur. Although he aspired to be a scientist and cleared the scientific exams of BARC and ISRO, he was not selected. He later worked as a faculty member in several engineering colleges. His dream of establishing himself globally is now being realized through the Jharkhand government’s Overseas Scholarship scheme. He will now pursue his higher education in London.
