In a disturbing case from Simdega district, Jharkhand, a man is fighting for his life after his wife allegedly set him on fire. The incident took place in the Ganjhu Toli of Genmer Panchayat, Bano block. Manoj Singh, the husband, suffered severe burns after his wife, Puja Devi, poured petrol on him and ignited it. He has been admitted to the IGH Hospital in Rourkela for specialized medical care.
Girda OP police have apprehended Puja Devi and are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. Preliminary reports suggest that Manoj and Puja had been married for about four months. On Friday, a disagreement occurred between the couple, which appeared to have been resolved temporarily. Later, when Manoj was sitting outside the house, his wife allegedly attacked him with petrol and fire. The rapid nature of the assault meant Manoj was critically injured before he could react. Local people intervened, put out the fire, and took him to the hospital. His condition remains precarious.
The police are yet to determine the exact reason behind the wife’s actions, but the incident has caused widespread concern. This is not an isolated incident. A similar event occurred in Gumla district of Jharkhand a few months ago.
