Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar recently presided over a joint celebration commemorating the statehood days of Nagaland and Assam, emphasizing India’s exceptional status as a global paragon of unity amidst vast diversity. He articulated that despite differences in language, culture, traditions, and lifestyles, the people of India are united by a shared national spirit. The event, held at Lok Bhavan, brought together members of the Naga and Assamese communities residing in Jharkhand to celebrate their respective statehood anniversaries, observed on December 1st and 2nd. Governor Gangwar commended the significant contributions of Nagaland and Assam’s citizens living in Jharkhand to the state’s growth through their hard work and talent. He eloquently described the northeastern states as vibrant embodiments of India’s rich cultural tapestry and stunning natural beauty. The Governor underscored the strategic importance of Northeast India, recognizing its pivotal role in national security, environmental stewardship, preserving cultural heritage, and reinforcing national unity. He lauded the region’s abundant biodiversity, time-honored traditions, unique tribal cultures, captivating music, intricate handicrafts, and immense tourism potential as national treasures. Delving into Assam’s cultural richness, he painted a picture of a land famed for its distinctive folk arts, literary achievements, musical traditions, and historical narratives, further characterized by the sacred Kamakhya Temple, the mighty Brahmaputra River, the energetic Bihu dance, and its iconic tea estates. Nagaland was aptly recognized as the ‘Land of Festivals,’ with its traditional music, indigenous attire, skilled craftsmanship, and the world-famous Hornbill Festival serving as proud emblems of its cultural identity. Governor Gangwar took the opportunity to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ campaign for fostering stronger inter-state cultural connections and mutual understanding. He also voiced his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s initiative to rename Raj Bhavans as Lok Bhavans. In his concluding remarks, the Governor conveyed his best wishes for the continued progress and enhanced global recognition of Nagaland and Assam’s distinct cultures. He called upon all to recommit to the principles of unity, harmony, and collective nation-building. Earlier, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Nitin Madan Kulkarni extended his congratulations and highlighted the cultural significance of figures like Bhupen Hazarika and Zubin Garg, as well as the celebrated Hornbill Festival.
