A devastating wild elephant attack has claimed two lives and left another person severely injured in Giridih district, Bihar. The incident unfolded in Gadi village, under the jurisdiction of Birni police station, on Monday dawn.
Victims Shanti Devi and Bodhi Pandit were fatally attacked by a herd of wild elephants while reportedly heading towards their agricultural fields. A third individual, Sudama Devi from Pesham village, sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at a Giridih hospital.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the elephants, crossing through the area, suddenly attacked the unsuspecting villagers. The intervention of local authorities, including the forest department and Barkattha police, was swift.
Officials have confirmed the tragic event and stated that immediate financial assistance has been extended to the families of the deceased. The forest department is actively engaged in relocating the elephant herd to a safer, more remote location to prevent further incidents. The condition of the injured woman is being closely monitored.
