Surya Hansda, who had contested the assembly elections four times from the Borio assembly seat, was killed in a police encounter. He was wanted in several criminal cases. Hansda had political connections. He contested the elections in 2019 as a BJP candidate but lost and in 2024 he contested on a different party’s ticket after not getting a ticket from BJP.
Surya Hansda faced defeat in all four assembly elections. In January of the same year, a total of three cases were registered against Suryanarayan Hansda alias Surya Hansda in Godda district and Sahibganj district of Jharkhand. These cases primarily included 30 to 40 rounds of firing in the ECL mining area, setting fire to a Hyva truck, and arson near a petrol pump in Sahibganj. Surya Hansda was also charged with kidnapping, murder, robbery, and other crimes.
