Dhanbad: Relief and celebration are in the air for the family of Wasseypur gangster Fahim Khan, as the Jharkhand High Court has ordered his release after nearly 16 years behind bars. The judicial pronouncement on Friday was met with widespread happiness by his relatives on Saturday.
Fahim Khan’s impending freedom marks the end of a long period of incarceration. The court’s decision on Friday was a significant moment for his family, with his son, Iqbal Khan, visibly expressing their joy by distributing sweets. Iqbal Khan conveyed the family’s unwavering belief in the justice system and their expectation of receiving a fair outcome. He also acknowledged the Dhanbad police for their commitment to upholding the law.
Addressing the youth, Iqbal Khan issued a strong warning against engaging in criminal activities, stressing the detrimental outcomes associated with such choices. He encouraged a return to a law-abiding life. According to Fahim Khan’s legal representative, Shahbaz Salam, a petition was submitted on November 29, 2024, pleading for his client’s release. The plea emphasized Khan’s deteriorating health and advanced age as compelling reasons for leniency.
The court had directed the state government to establish a review board to examine the case further. The advocate pointed out that Fahim Khan, who is over 75 years old, has already served over 20 years of his sentence. These factors, including his age and the substantial duration of his imprisonment, were key considerations for the court’s release order. Fahim Khan’s conviction dates back to the 1989 murder case of Sagir, and he has been in jail since 2009. The family and well-wishers are now celebrating the prospect of his release.
