In a significant ruling, the CBI court has convicted former Jharkhand Minister Enos Ekka and his wife, Menon Ekka, in a land scam dating back 15 years. The court found them guilty of offenses related to the illegal acquisition of tribal land, violating the CNT Act, and abusing Enos Ekka’s position as a minister. The sentences include seven years of imprisonment for both Enos and Menon Ekka, along with fines of ₹2.10 lakh and ₹2.60 lakh respectively. The scam involved the purchase of substantial amounts of tribal land using fraudulent addresses. Other officials, including the then LRDC of Ranchi, Kartik Kumar Prabhat, were also found guilty and received prison sentences. The scandal came to light following an investigation ordered by the Jharkhand High Court, which led to the CBI filing an FIR in 2010. The investigation revealed that the illegal land deals were facilitated by several officials, including revenue employees.
