A 70-year-old woman, Lukuia Dhiwar, was found murdered in Ghodasai village, located in the Ghatshila police station area of East Singhbhum district on Monday. The crime scene revealed that her throat had been slit, and the incident occurred late Sunday.
When locals noticed the door of her home remained shut on Monday morning, their concern led them to discover her lifeless body covered in blood. This discovery has led to widespread fear among the villagers.
Law enforcement has detained a young man from the village as a suspect and is currently interrogating him.
Residents recounted that the victim had been living alone in her home for several years. Notably, two years prior, she was assaulted by Sunil Dhiwar, a fellow villager, who accused her of practicing witchcraft. Despite police involvement, the situation was resolved through a settlement. Now, after the latest incident, villagers are speculating whether this murder is a continuation of the past dispute.
Police officials have initiated an investigation and secured the crime scene. A forensic team has also been deployed to gather evidence, including the murder weapon. The SDPO of Ghatshila confirmed that questioning of the suspect is ongoing, and the case will be resolved shortly.
