In East Singhbhum, the Fair Price Shop Dealers Association of Jharkhand held a protest at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday. The demonstration was a response to the non-payment of outstanding commissions. The association submitted a memorandum, warning that 1432 Public Distribution System (PDS) shops in the district would be closed from September 1st, if the dues remained unpaid. This closure would bring the entire ration distribution process to a standstill.
Led by district president Nagesh Jaiswal, the protest saw the participation of key members including Satyanarayan Rajak, Laxman Meedak, Advocate Vijay, and Vibhish Sav. They highlighted that both shopkeepers and women’s committees had not received their commissions for several months, leading to financial hardship. They further stated that despite multiple requests, the concerned department hadn’t taken any action.
The association’s demands include commission payment, upgrades and maintenance of e-POS machines, increase in salaries, and improved distribution practices. The association has firmly stated that if their grievances are unaddressed, they will be compelled to initiate an indefinite shutdown. They hold the government and the supply department responsible for the consequences.
