A swift and decisive action by the Barkatha police in Hazaribagh district has led to the arrest of six criminals involved in demanding a ten lakh rupee ransom from a rural doctor. The arrested individuals are Naved Khan alias Golu Khan, Salman Ansari, Abul Ansari, Afsar Ansari, Alok Kumar, and Satyam Kumar. During the operation, authorities recovered a locally manufactured pistol, eight live bullets, a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration JH 02 AL-4873, and six mobile phones. The extortion attempt began on the night of October 30th, when the doctor, Ghulam Rabbani, was telephoned and threatened with demands for a substantial sum. Further escalating the intimidation, the criminals fired shots at a vehicle parked at the doctor’s home on November 6th. Promptly registering a case, the police, under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan, formed a special task force. This unit, comprising personnel from Barkatha and Gorhar police stations, executed targeted raids that resulted in the capture of the suspects and the seizure of evidence, including the firearm and live ammunition used in the offense. The arrested criminals have admitted to their criminal activities. Preliminary findings suggest a pattern, with the same mobile number linked to a prior extortion case in Tatijharia.
