After a period of pleasant weather thanks to May’s rainfall, Delhi and surrounding areas are now grappling with a severe heatwave. The mercury hit 45 degrees Celsius in the capital on Monday, causing significant discomfort. Clear skies and strong sunshine contributed to the intense heat across the NCR region. The forecast indicates that the heat will continue, with highs of 44 degrees Celsius and lows of 29 degrees Celsius, along with the possibility of dust storms and heatwave conditions. The heatwave is expected to last until June 12, with a chance of relief from June 13 due to predicted rainfall.
Uttar Pradesh is also in the grip of a heatwave. An orange alert has been issued for several districts, warning of extreme heat. The state is likely to experience rainfall starting tomorrow, with a forecast of rain and thunderstorms in a majority of districts on June 12.
Bihar is not expected to experience relief from the heat today, but the weather is anticipated to shift late tonight. Heavy rainfall is expected from tomorrow, coinciding with the monsoon’s arrival, which is projected to reach Bihar by June 15. Light rain is possible in some districts tonight. Jharkhand is also set to see a weather change today, with strong winds and rain expected in numerous districts until June 14.
Rajasthan is once again facing intense heat, with Sri Ganganagar recording a high of 47.3 degrees Celsius. The weather department predicts dry conditions and a heatwave in western Rajasthan for the coming week. Light rain is possible in some areas on June 15-16. Haryana and Punjab are also expected to experience severe heat this week.
