A devastating incident unfolded at the CCL Karma Project in Ramgarh, Jharkhand, where a coal mine collapse claimed the lives of four individuals and injured six others. The accident occurred when villagers were illegally mining coal at the Central Coalfields Limited’s (CCL) Karma Project in Kuju. A sudden collapse of the coal seam buried several miners under the rubble.
Local sources indicate that the deceased were identified as Imtiyaz, Rameswar Manjhi, Wakil Karmali, and Nirmal Munda. The villagers had entered the mine to steal coal when the tragedy struck.
The incident has ignited anger among the villagers, who are holding the CCL management responsible. They claim the incident was a result of negligence, citing the lack of proper fencing or boundary walls around the mine, which allowed easy access. They also allege violations of safety regulations set by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS).
Rescue operations are underway, with authorities employing JCB machines to clear the debris. The focus is on locating and extracting anyone trapped under the remaining rubble. Reports suggest that more villagers might still be trapped.
