A serious train accident has been reported from Chandil, Jharkhand, where two goods trains collided early Friday morning. The incident happened near Chandil railway station, within the Adra rail division. The impact caused significant damage, with multiple coaches from both trains leaving the tracks and the locomotives sustaining substantial damage.
The collision has led to a complete shutdown of rail traffic on both the up and down lines due to debris scattered across the tracks. Initial investigations suggest a potential issue with the signaling system as a contributing factor.
One of the goods trains was traveling from Tatanagar towards Bokaro, while the other was moving in the opposite direction, from Bokaro to Tatanagar. Authorities are currently investigating the specific cause of the accident.
According to local accounts, a goods train traveling from Tatanagar towards Purulia derailed after passing Chandil station. The derailed coaches then encroached onto the adjacent track.
Subsequently, a second goods train, approaching from the opposite direction, collided with the derailed coaches. This resulted in further derailment of the second train.
The accident occurred between the Pitki railway gate and Chandil station.
As a consequence of the collision, all train services, including both passenger and freight trains, on the Chandil-Tatanagar and Chandil-Bokaro routes have been suspended. Several trains have been cancelled, diverted, or had their journeys cut short.
Restoration of the track and resumption of normal rail operations could take up to a day. Senior railway officials are on-site to oversee the situation, and the process of rescue and repair operations has begun.
