Jharkhand’s opposition leader, Babulal Marandi, has accused the state administration of manufacturing new criminal incidents to mask ongoing illegal activities. Marandi claims that the government and its associated systems in Jharkhand have developed a habit of inventing offenses to cover up actual crimes. The Enforcement Directorate’s recent probe into the vast coal network in Dhanbad has exposed startling truths. A particularly alarming revelation is the alleged ‘assignment’ given by some ‘senior police officers,’ reportedly benefiting from the illicit coal trade, to ‘eliminate’ key operatives of the coal mafia.
Reports indicate a sinister plot to assassinate individuals currently under ED interrogation, ensuring that critical information remains buried. The tactic of staging ‘encounter killings’ of witnesses under the guise of law enforcement is not new to Jharkhand. The state has a history of a DGP facing accusations of orchestrating contract killings and rampant corruption, with even ruling party figures denouncing him as the most corrupt official ever.
Marandi cautions the ED to be highly vigilant. He emphasizes that in Jharkhand, power lies with those who silence the truth, not those who reveal it. When the ruling powers, the administrative machinery, and criminal elements align, the perversion of justice becomes an almost inevitable outcome.
