A village head in Khunti district, Jharkhand, was killed in a brazen act of violence. Reports indicate that a group of criminals, armed with weapons, entered the village head’s residence late Saturday night. The attackers first assaulted the village head with sticks and then shot him. The village head’s nephew was also attacked when he attempted to protect his uncle and is now receiving medical care.
The incident took place during heavy rainfall. The armed group, comprising more than half a dozen individuals, gained entry to the home of Gram Pradhan Balram Manda. The attackers immediately began assaulting him with sticks and weapons, and then shot him dead. The attackers remained in the house for around thirty minutes, ransacking the property after committing the murder.
Following the murder, the perpetrators fled the scene. The news of the violent crime quickly spread throughout the area. Police from the Maranghada police station responded to the scene, secured the body of the deceased village head, and began an investigation to find and arrest the criminals. The authorities are exploring potential motives, including a possible robbery or a personal dispute.
Balram Manda, the slain village head, was affiliated with the BJP in Khunti district. He was formerly a BJP Mandal Minister. Prominent figures, including former Jharkhand Minister Nilkanth Singh Munda, have visited the victim’s family, expressing their condolences and demanding the arrest of those responsible for the crime.
