The Indian 105 mm gun, instrumental in the success of Operation Sindoor, is set to reverberate once more, this time from the Red Fort during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. This year, on August 15th, the 79th anniversary of India’s independence, a 21-gun salute will be fired using the indigenously developed Light Field Guns. These preparations are in full swing. For the past three years, the Indian Army has been using these homegrown guns for the traditional 21-gun salute on Independence Day. The 105 mm Indian Field Gun will fire 21 rounds to coincide with the 52-second duration of the national anthem. Earlier, the British 25 Pounder Gun was used for this ceremonial firing. This shift signifies India’s growing self-reliance in defense, with the sound of indigenous artillery taking center stage on this significant day.
