Today, India commemorates its 79th Independence Day, a day of immense significance for every citizen. The entire country is immersed in celebrations, reflecting the joy of freedom. In 1947, India achieved independence after two centuries of British colonial rule. This day honors the sacrifices made during the freedom movement, celebrates the nation’s advancements, and promotes unity among its people. Prime Minister Modi will unfurl the Indian flag at the Red Fort, followed by a 21-gun salute and a national address.
This will be PM Modi’s 12th address from the Red Fort. The theme for this year is ‘New India’, envisioning a prosperous, secure, and self-reliant India by 2047. The Independence Day celebrations will host 5000 special guests, including athletes from the Special Olympics 2025, farmers, sarpanches, young authors, and sanitation workers. The ceremony will also mark the success of Operation Sindoor. The band performing the national anthem will, for the first time, include Agniveers.
The ceremony will see the participation of 85 sarpanches from different parts of the country. Festivities will be widespread across India. Spectacular tableaux will be showcased on Kartavya Path, displaying the strength and valor of the armed forces. The Red Fort and its surroundings are under tight security. More than 11,000 security personnel and CCTV surveillance will be in place, with snipers positioned on nearby rooftops.
Due to the Red Fort event, the Delhi Traffic Police has implemented several traffic diversions. The area around the Red Fort will be closed to traffic from 4 am to 10 am. Stay tuned for live updates on Independence Day.
