India is preparing to celebrate its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025. The Prime Minister will be present at the Red Fort in New Delhi for the flag hoisting ceremony, marking the beginning of the celebrations. Following the unfurling of the national flag, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver his 12th consecutive address to the nation. This year’s Independence Day theme is ‘Naya Bharat,’ reflecting the government’s focus on achieving its ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision for the year 2047.
The Prime Minister’s arrival at the Red Fort will be followed by his reception by the Defence Minister, the Minister of State for Defence, and the Defence Secretary. Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, the GOC of the Delhi area, will be introduced to the PM by the Defence Secretary. A key element of the celebrations is the recognition of Operation Sindoor’s success, with the operation’s logo and themed floral arrangements displayed at Gyanpath. Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist the Prime Minister in the flag hoisting, with a subsequent flypast by two Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopters.
Wing Commanders Vinay Poonia and Aditya Jaiswal will pilot the aircraft. Post-address, the National Anthem will be performed by NCC cadets and ‘My Bharat’ volunteers. Around 2,500 cadets and volunteers will form the ‘Naya Bharat’ logo. The Red Fort celebrations will welcome approximately 5,000 special guests, including athletes from the Special Olympics 2025, winners of international sports events, and outstanding farmers. Also invited are beneficiaries of various government schemes.
These include successful farmers, entrepreneurs, and students. To boost patriotic sentiment, band performances will occur across India on Independence Day evening. These performances will be conducted by military and paramilitary bands at numerous locations. The government will also emphasize Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The government also sent delegations to other countries to address cross-border terrorism. The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan’ is also being promoted as a way to celebrate national pride and patriotism.
The Ministry of Culture is organizing the fourth edition of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which encourages citizens to hoist the Indian flag in their homes. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat mentioned that over 5 lakh youths have signed up to volunteer for the campaign. The initiative involves the collaboration of various governmental and societal bodies. The celebrations will culminate on August 15, 2025, with citizens displaying the Tiranga. This display represents a united affirmation of national pride.
