Northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are under a red alert as Cyclone Ditwah rapidly approaches India’s shores. The cyclone has already caused catastrophic damage and a significant loss of life in Sri Lanka. Indian authorities are taking no chances, with extensive preparations underway to mitigate the impact of the storm. The IMD has issued the highest level of warning for the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh. Heavy monsoon-like rains are already being experienced in these regions, signaling the cyclone’s imminent arrival. The storm’s path indicates it will move parallel to the North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast, potentially coming within 25 kilometers of the coastline by Sunday evening. In response, specialized SDRF and NDRF units are on standby, ready to provide immediate assistance. Meanwhile, India is actively supporting its neighbor, having launched ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’ to deliver vital relief and rescue support to Sri Lanka, including deploying air force transport planes and experienced NDRF teams with canine units.
