A gathering of INDIA bloc leaders took place on August 7 at the home of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, with the agenda heavily influenced by a range of significant issues. These include alleged irregularities in the Bihar voter list revision, recent incidents of violence in Jammu and Kashmir, and the ongoing criticism leveled at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut provided insights into the primary subjects of discussion. The meeting was expected to examine the details of Operation Sindoor, the Pahalgam attack, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The INDIA bloc has previously expressed reservations regarding the fairness and scheduling of the SIR process, particularly given the proximity of state elections. KC Venugopal indicated the bloc’s efforts to instigate a parliamentary discussion on the matter. Key figures present included Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, LOP Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah were also in attendance. MNM chief and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan participated in the INDIA bloc meeting. Congress MP Rajani Patil reported that the meeting centered on several crucial issues, one being the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in Bihar. She stressed the importance of addressing this matter seriously, advocating for comprehensive debate within Parliament to guarantee transparency and fairness in the electoral system. Congress MP Francis George stated the INDIA bloc meeting featured a presentation from Rahul Gandhi concerning the SIR issue in Bihar, outlining claims of extensive rigging and wrongdoing during the last Lok Sabha elections, which led to the BJP gaining a majority. He stated that the bloc will bring the BJP’s actions to public attention.
