Independence Day 2025: Delhi Bolsters Security with AI, 20,000 Personnel, and Citywide Vigilance

In anticipation of Independence Day celebrations, security measures have been dramatically increased nationwide, with a focus on Delhi. The city is experiencing intensified patrols, checkpoints, and heightened surveillance. Multiple agencies, including the Delhi Police, paramilitary forces, NSG, SPG, and Military Intelligence, are involved in a multi-layered security plan. Over 20,000 security personnel are actively deployed. Delhi Police are utilizing advanced AI systems such as facial recognition, anti-intrusion cameras, and ANPR technology. The ANPR system will scan license plates to identify potential threats, while facial recognition technology will cross-reference against a database of 300,000 individuals. Abandoned object detection systems and anti-intrusion cameras are in place to monitor the Red Fort, along with anti-drone systems and rooftop snipers. Over 800 CCTV cameras will monitor key locations, with two dedicated control rooms providing real-time surveillance. The Red Fort has been under access control for three weeks with ongoing anti-sabotage checks. Vehicle scanning systems are also in place at parking facilities. Commercial vehicles have been banned from entering Delhi from August 14, and traffic diversions are active. Cyber patrols identified social media accounts displaying weapons, resulting in arrests and weapon seizures. Similar security protocols are in place in Chandigarh, where over 2,000 police officers are present, and in other locations like Sambhal and Bandipora. Additional security measures are also in effect in Mumbai and Agartala.
