In a significant crackdown on illegal immigration, Dehradun Police have arrested a Bangladeshi national who had been living in India under a fabricated Hindu identity. The operation, known as ‘Operation Kalnemi,’ aims to identify and address individuals residing with false pretenses.
The arrested individual, Babli Begum (28), from Bangladesh’s Gaibandha district, was discovered living in Patel Nagar, posing as Bhoomi Sharma. Her illegal entry into India reportedly occurred in 2020 during the global health crisis. She eventually relocated to Dehradun in 2021, married a local man the following year, and then secured fraudulent Indian identification documents.
Upon her arrest, police confiscated an array of forged papers, including what appeared to be an Aadhaar card, Ayushman card, ration card, and voter ID, all in the name of Bhoomi Sharma. Her genuine Bangladeshi identification was also found, confirming her true identity as Babli Begum. She is now facing legal proceedings for her unlawful stay and the procurement of counterfeit documents.
Law enforcement agencies are diligently working to uncover a network that may have assisted in generating these fake documents, promising severe repercussions for those complicit. This latest arrest brings the total number of Bangladeshi nationals apprehended under Operation Kalnemi in Dehradun to 17, with several already facing deportation or legal consequences.
