Dr. Manoj V Murhekar, a leading scientist and director at the ICMR-NIE, clarified that a comprehensive study has found no connection between COVID-19 vaccinations and sudden deaths. The study, which included a significant number of participants, concluded that the vaccine did not contribute to these fatalities. Furthermore, the research revealed that those who had received the COVID-19 vaccine had a reduced risk of sudden death. The study also highlighted other risk factors like severe past COVID-19 infections, hospitalization related to COVID-19, recent intense physical activity, excessive alcohol consumption, and a family history of sudden death.
This statement was made in light of Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah’s concerns over a series of heart-related deaths in Hassan. Murhekar emphasized that the ICMR study was conducted 1.5 years prior and yielded results that contradicted any link between vaccination and sudden death, and that a committee in Karnataka is investigating these deaths.
