As India observed Gandhi Jayanti, Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Khadi Festival 2025 in Delhi. He emphasized the importance of Khadi and Swadeshi, concepts central to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision for India’s independence. Shah recalled that Gandhi understood the essence of India and mobilized the people against the British. He stated that the freedom movement and the promotion of Khadi and Swadeshi are inseparable. He appealed to the public to purchase Khadi clothing worth at least ₹5,000 annually.
Shah noted that Khadi and Swadeshi had been largely forgotten in the country. He acknowledged the revival efforts started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat in 2003, when he was the Chief Minister. He pointed out that Khadi’s business has grown significantly since 2014, reaching ₹1.7 billion today.
