A bomb threat directed at Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan’s Chennai home was investigated and ultimately deemed a hoax on Friday. The Estate Police Station received an email asserting a bomb had been placed at the Vice President’s Mylapore property. In response, a high-security operation commenced, involving police officials, bomb disposal experts, and sniffer dogs. Authorities quickly ascertained that the Vice President relocated from the Mylapore residence over a year ago and now lives in a rented flat in the Poes Garden area. Security teams were dispatched to his current address as per standard procedure for VIP security threats. The apartment was secured but remained locked, preventing immediate access for a thorough bomb sweep. After an initial examination of the surrounding area, police officials expressed strong suspicion that the threat was not genuine. This incident follows a disturbing trend of hoax bomb threats in Chennai and other major Indian cities. Notably, over 150 schools in Delhi and Bengaluru have received similar false alarms since July, leading to evacuations and panic. Investigations into the source of these emails are ongoing, with a focus on international servers and encrypted communication methods. The Ministry of Home Affairs is coordinating efforts to apprehend those responsible for spreading such fear.
